Appearing in Virginia’s federal courts is recognized nationally as a unique experience, due to the United States District Court Eastern District’s (E.D.Va.) “Rocket Docket.” Further, strict compliance with the E.D.Va.’s local rules is required. Virginia’s state court procedures are also unique and require knowledge and experience with the Commonwealth’s procedural nuances.
McCandlish Holton regularly serves clients and out-of-state attorneys as local counsel. Our experience in Virginia federal and state courts, at both the trial and appellate levels, ensures that when we are local counsel, litigant’s matters are resolved on the merits and not on lack of compliance with a local rule, order or practice. We have easy access to a wide range of courts to assist out of state clients. We are within walking distance to state and federal courts located in downtown Richmond including the Court of Appeals of Virginia, the Supreme Court of Virginia, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
